The Hospice at the Haven of Rest reaches out to terminally ill patients. Most of these patients were displaced from the Ark in 2003. Pastor Ronnie and the care workers have relieved the suffering of these unfortunate people by providing the best possible hospice care for them. We have applied for I.D. documents for them and a few are still awaiting these documents.
Diseases in the hospice patients consists of chronic stomach disorders and others, T.B. Aids, Cancer diarrhoea, vomiting, migraine headaches and disabilities such as blindness, epilepsy, paralysis due to arthritis, bedsores, retarded disabilities as patients are unable to think for themselves, mouth sores, blisters, body sores, anxiety depression, constant tiredness, asthma, weakness, and bed ridden patients. They require constant help and assistance in all areas. We have a full time nurse and doctor for all patients on the premises.
We are under medical care by hospitals and clinics and assistance from social workers are sought as the need arises.
Patients are assisted and supervised during meal times. We allow them to rest as often as possible. They are assisted during the night by care-workers. We also have care-workers on standby to help with emergencies. These care-workers must be vigilant at all times. Patience, understanding, commitment and full co-operation is required in taking care of hospice patients. They are also responsible for the hygiene and the cleanliness of hospice. All washing and bedding is done daily by the laundry.
Hobbies of the patients include paging through magazines and watching TV.
The team that caters for all the needs of the Hospice patients consist of Adlemor Ho Yin (Director) care workers, Ester Moodley, Nosipho Mtetwa, Selvie Rajagopaul, Sibongile Namiscile.
Over the past four years a number of hospice patients have passed on and all funeral costs have been carried by the Haven of Rest.
